Nigeria’s former Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, is dead. He was aged 85.
Shonekan died in Lagos in the early hours of Tuesday, January 11.
A British-trained lawyer, industrialist, Shonekan was a former chairman of UAC and its first Nigerian Managing Director before he was appointed as Interim President of Nigeria by General Ibrahim Babangida in 1993.
He was the interim head of the Nigerian Government between August 26, 1993, and November 17, 1993 when he was ousted in a coup led by the late General Sani Abacha.
