The federal government and leaders of the Nstional Association of Resident Doctors are about to redolve the issues that caused the doctors to embark on strike.

Both camps met for several hours on Wednesday, September 6 looking at all the issues on the table but there were strong indications last night the matter would be sorted out on Thursday, September 7.

Labour and Employment,  minister Chris Ngige and his counterpart in the Health ministry Isaac Adewole among other government functionaries attended the meeting.

The NARD began the strike on Monday, September 4 taking government unawares after both parties had agreed to an amicable resolution of the matter.

When they kicked off the meeting on Wednesday, Ngige expressed dissatisfaction over the way the doctors disrespected the mutual understanding they had with the federal government on the planned strike.

Across the country there were reports of several patients not being able to be attended to in the hospitals due to lack of doctors.

Though Adewole told the Chief Medical Directors of government hospitals to engage consultants, Corps members and nurses for energency cases, it was learnt that the available personnel were not enough to deal with the cases reported by the patients that required urgent attention.

The NARD leaders complained that government has shown it cannot be trusted having failed to obey padt agreements with them on the same issues.
