The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday as a public holiday to mark the Eid-el-Maulud in commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior, made the announcement on Tuesday on behalf of the Federal Government.
According to a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the interior ministry, Mohammed Manga, the minister congratulated the Muslim faithful and urged them to imbibe the spirit of love, patience, and perseverance which were the virtues of the Holy Prophet
The minister added that doing so would guarantee peace and security in the country.
He appealed to Nigerians and all Muslims to shun violence, lawlessness, wantonness, and daylight robbery as witnessed across the country recently.
