FG Inaugurates Advertising Offences Tribunal

The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated Advertising Offences Tribunal to entertain violation of Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) Act No 23 of 2022, Code of Advertising Practice, Standard of Practice and relevant legislations.

The panel, constituted in line with Section 38 of ARCON Act No 23 of 2022, is headed by Justice Cecelia Olatoregun. Other members of the panel are Charles Odenigbo; Moroof Aileru; Julie Jacks and Idorenyen Enang.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja during the inauguration, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed urged members to handle issues fairly.

Accorind to Mohammed, government’s interest in boosting role and mandate of ARCON for effective regulation of advertising, advertisement and marketing communication in the country is premised on the fact that the industry holds enormous potential to influence the nation’s economic growth.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun commended Director-General of ARCON, Dr. Lekan Fadolapo, for purposeful leadership.

Earlier, Fadolapo lauded the minister for his commitment to enhancing professionalism in the advertising sub-sector.

“While I am congratulating our industry and members of the panel for today’s landmark achievement, I will single out our minister for his pragmatism and commitment to up the game in the advertising industry. Under him, the industry has witnessed the most entrenched reform, which has redefined practice and boost professionalism,” he said.
