All mining activities in Zamfara state in Nigeria have been suspended.
The suspension is part of the efforts by the federal government of Nigeria to deal with the spate of killings and banditry in the state and its environments.
The acting Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu dropped the hint on Sunday during a news briefing in Abuja.
The police boss also advised all expatriates involved in mining in Zamfara state to vacate the place in 48 hours.
Zamfara has of late been known as a killing field with most of the killings linked to fight over mining portions.
Kadaria Ahmed, a television presenter and an indigene of Zamfara at the weekend led a protest to condemn the wanton killings in her state.
She had blamed President Muhammadu Buhari and the governor Abdullahi Yari for the rising insecurity in Zamfara and urged Buhari to rise to the ocassion.
Ahmed called Yari the most useless governor in Nigeria due to the Zamfara saga.
But Buhari reacted to the protest and said he was on top of the situation.
The briefing which Adamu held on Sunday had in attendance the chief of staff to Buhari, Abba Kyari.
