A section of the senate chambers was on Thursday gutted by fire as a result of spark from one of the offices.
The incident which started from the technical section of the senate could have razed the chambers but for the timely intervention of operatives of fire service and personnel of the department.
Sources said details of the incident were not known immediately but the senate leadership had called for details on what could have happened.
