President Bola Tinubu had during his inaugural speech, last Monday in Abuja, declared an end to fuel subsidy regime.
Barely 48 hours after Tinubu’s declaration, the NNPCL increased the pump price of PMS in it filling stations across the country.
The new price template released by the NNPCL on Wednesday put the new pump price of petrol at between N488 and N557 a litre depending on the place of purchase.
Fuel queues have since resurfaced across the country since the presidential pronouncement as Nigerians forage for the premium product.
The NLC announced the industrial action on Friday, following a meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja over the fuel subsidy removal and subsequent hike in the pump price of petrol.
The NEC comprises all Presidents, General Secretaries, Treasurers of all NLC’s affiliate unions; State Chairpersons and Secretaries of the NLC State Councils, Chairperson of the NLC Youth Committee and members of the National Administrative Council (NAC).
Meanwhile, the NLC has called for a probe into the fuel subsidy regime in Nigeria.
Ajaero, made the call on Friday, while briefing journalists shortly before the commencement of an emergency meeting of NLC National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja.
Ajaero condemned the unilateral decision of the federal government to remove fuel subsidy without due consultation.
He insisted that the decision is not in the favour of the people, even as he called for a thorough probe into the subsidy regime, which he said was fraught with corruption.
