Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State on Thursday swore-in 27 persons as transition committee chairmen for Imo state.
On Wednesday, the Governor approved the constitution of Interim Management Committee (IMC) for the 27 LGAs, following directive from the Imo State House of Assembly that a vacuum be closed with the IMC for effective management of the affairs of the councils.
After the swearing -in, the governor told the chairmen that they must live in their domain with the people and should seek approval before they come to the state capital.
Governor Uzodinma told them to go and serve the people and help top bring his message of prosperity government encapsulated in his three R mantra of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery to reality.
Said Uzodinma: “You must live in your LGA and before you come to Owerri, you must apply to the Office of the Special Adviser on Political for approval. Go and recover the LGAs which are like a cemetry. You must serve the people and not yourself. In a very short time we will be organising a proper local council election. If you do well you can stand in for the election or you will be disqualified if the contrary is the case. Avoid things that will bring government to ridicule. Go and justify the trust we have today reposed on you and remember that government business is a serious business.”
The governor added that the fight against the coronavirus in the state is a serious one and that the ndewly sworn-in IMC Chairmen must take the message to the locals and ensurer that the effort being made to protect the Imo citizens from contacting the virus is not a waste.
He therefore admonished them to work with officials of the National Centre for Diseases Control (NCDC), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Red Cross, in collaboration with the State Committee on Prevention and Control of Coronavirus in the state and traditional rulers and town unions to sensitise the locals.
Governor Uzodinma also promised that the government will soon send palliatives to the local governments and told the IMC chairmen to ensure that the materials get to the people.
