The Impetus Group has called on the Federal Government to expedite action and prosecute a group of six lawmakers who allegedly desecrated the hallowed premises of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.

It would be recalled that the lawmakers basking in the support of then Minister of Education and current Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike allegedly mobilized over 500 militants and thugs with strict instruction to attack and maim law abiding lawmakers who had rightly resumed their daily job of lawmaking at the Assembly complex.

The  six lawmakers also, in complete defiance and ridicule of the necessary provisions of the Nigerian constitution, attempted to impeach an elected Governor of Rivers State without meeting the required 2/3 requirement.

The lawmakers involved in the abominable and punishable act include: Kelechi Godspower Nworgu, Micheal Okechukwu Chindah,   Victor Ihunwo, Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani,  Martins Amaewhule and their leader, Evans Bipi.

It is imperative that these legislators are made to face the full wrath of the law to serve as deterrent to others who may want to toe the same path and jeopardise our hard earned and progressing democracy. Such crass display of impunity should not be allowed to go unpunished.

Our appeal has become more so significant in view of the policy of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s commitment to enforce the full weight of the law on any known threat to our democratic journey to the paradise of our dream, according to a statement signed by Obinna Ebogidi, Director, Media and Publicity, The Impetus Group.
