Maryam Sanda, the lady who allegedly killed her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, on November 19, 2017 and has been in detention ever since has been admitted to bail.

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Jabi, on Wednesday granted her bail and adjourned the case to March 19 for continuation of trial.

Bilyaminu was the son of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Haliru Bello.

Justice Yusuf Halilu granted the bail following a new motion filed before the court by Maryam’s counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN).

Dauda had asked the court to consider the present health challenge of his client in the motion he raised for her bail.

His prayer before the court was that the health of his client had deteriorated drastically since her arrest and detention on November last year.

Dauda also said that the Suleja Prison where the defendant was kept has no adequate medical facilities to take care of her ailing health.

He also drew the court’s attention to the defendant’s pregnancy and also, that she is nursing a nine-month-old baby.

Halilu granted her bail and ordered Maryam to produce two sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must have a landed property in the FCT.

One of the conditions the court gave was that the biological father of the defendant must sign an undertaking with the court to produce her on demand at every court sitting.

Maryam was first arraigned in November 2017 for alleged culpable homicide and conspiracy alongside her mother, Maimuna Aliyu; brother, Aliyu Sanda, and their housemaid, Sadiya Aminu.

Her mother, brother and maid were granted bail on December 14, 2017, but Maryam was denied bail and remanded in Suleja Prison for investigation to continue.
