Few hours to the governorship and state houses of assembly elections nationwide, the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been razed by fire.
It is suspected that hoodlums loyal to the politicians may have done the job.
Several elections materials were reportedly destroyed in the incident, but the INEC Reswident Electoral Commissioner for Akwa Ibom, Mike Igini said the ballot boxes had been distributed before the ugly incident took place.
Igini, expressed regret over the incident but assured that elections would go on unhindered as planned. He said the sensistice materials were not affected.
The governorship and state houses of assembly elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday, March 9, 2019.
