.No, Elect Igbo Man Nigeria’s President and See Country Prosper, Ikpeazu Tells Daniel
Former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel who is seeking to be chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said he would ensure the Igbo get the vice presidential slot of the PDP for the 2019 general election if he wins.
But Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu insists that the surest path to Nigeria’s prosperity is to elect a President of Igbo extraction.
Ikpeazu threw the challenge in the remark he made at the Presidential Lodge, Government House Umuahia, while receiving Daniel,who had come to seek his support for his aspiration.
Ikpeazu’z reasons: Igbos are vendors of prosperity and distributors of wealth who believe in the unity of this country as can be seen from the fact that they are everywhere in this country doing business, owning top scale properties and contributing majorly to the economic development of the places where they live.
Ikpeazu said that he, as a 16 year old boy, left home to pursue his university education at the University of Maiduguri and lived there till he got his Masters Degree in Biochemistry, stating that when he got there newly, he was shocked at the number of Igbos who live and do business there and have have infact become part of the society.
According to him, he has travelled to all states of the country and can say with pride that no other ethnic group in this country has shown more commitment and belief in the unity of this country more than Igbos.
His words: “Not only do they live and trade there, they acquire and develop property, own big business, employ even the indigenes, contribute to the economic development of the place. Indeed, most Igbo businessmen prefer to build houses where they live before building at home.
“Therefore, it would make a lot of sense to allow this group of people who believe in this country so much a chance to lead this country and as vendors of prosperity and distributors of wealth, I have no doubt in my mind that Nigeria will grow in leaps and bounds with an Igbo man as President”.
Daniel in his response described Igbos as the engine room of our local economy who deserve a shot at the leadership of the country. He stated that with him as National Chairman, he will insist on the Igbos getting the Vice Presidential slot of the PDP in 2019 as a prelude to the eventual emergence of an Igbo President.
