The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful for coming out en mass to participate in the party’s local government delegate congresses held across the state on Monday.
Madumere said it was exciting seeing them exercising their civil right of voting their choice candidates for various positions at the local government level of the party administration.
Also, the APC chairman in Imo State, Hilary Eke as well as other chieftains of the party in the state like Senators Ifeanyi Araraume and Ben Uwajumogu congratulated the members for exercising their rights despite efforts to frustrate the exercise.
The Deputy Governor made the commendation while fielding questions from newsmen when they called at his country home, Lake-Malinda, Achi, Ezi-Mbieri, Mbaitoli local government area of Imo State.
Madumere said the exercise was free, fair and peaceful. He said he gave credit to the party delegates.
His words: “The LGA congresses from the report I have received so far are gloriously successful. There has not been any case of violence as everyone seems to be interested in ensuring the party is re-invigorated for the task ahead.
“In Mbaitoli my local government, it was also very fair, free and peaceful. I commend everyone who participated and other party faithful across the twenty-seven local government for successful local government congresses.”
In the same vein, the State Chairman of APC, Eke, also described the exercise as a huge success, and “a sign of good things to come.”
He regretted that the state’s party secretariat was torched on the eve of the day he local government congress was to hold leading to its rescheduling for Monday, insisting that agents of government were responsible.
He recalled that a certain aide to Governor Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law had threatened to burn down the party secretariat if he did not rescind his stand on the successful ward congresses earlier held in Imo state.
Eke hinted that reports reaching him from the 27 local government areas of Imo indicated a successful outing and the strength of the APC.
From Isiala Mbano in Okigwe senatorial zone, Senators Araraume and Uwajumogu also reported that the exercise went on pretty well.
Addressing the delegates before the voting, Araraume explained the circumstances surrounding the postponement from Saturday, May 12 to Monday, May 14 noting that what was important was that the members had the opportunity to participate in a free and fair congresses.
