In line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, on the total ban on the use of SPY number plate by vehicle owners in the country without exception as to whether it was procured with the authorization of the Police or not, the Imo State Police Command, has commenced full implementation of the IGP’s directives.
By this development, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, has warned that all private individuals, companies or group of companies who had earlier been using or have just procured the SPY Number Plates for their use to immediately revert back to the original registered number plates of their vehicles.
In a statement on Monday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Michael Abattam said the ban has become inevitable because of the flagrant abuse of traffic rules and regulations and other extant laws guiding the use of Police SPY Number Plates.
In the same vein, the Command has warned that apart from vehicles with factory tinted glasses, all other vehicles with artificial tinted glasses, those covering their car number plates or replaced their number plates with the vehicle designed logo should remove them because anyone caught in these unwholesome acts, his or her vehicle will be impounded and will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has mandated all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders of the various units to ensure strict enforcement of this directives with utmost sense of diligence and professionalism as anyone found complicit or feigns ignorance of this warning, if caught will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Barde while commending Imolites for their unalloyed support, enjoins them to comply strictly with the ban, assuring them of the Command’s commitment with other security agencies to ensure that terrorism and violent crimes are brought to the bearest minimum in the state.
