The Independent National Electoral commission has declared President Muhammadu Buhari winner of the Saturday February 23 presidential election.
The INEC Chairman Mahmoud Yakubu announced Buhari winner in the wee hours of Wednesday, February 27.
He said Buhari polled the highest number of valid votes in the election and that he satisfied the conditions for being delared elected.
Former vice president Atiku Abubakar who is the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, the main opposition party, has rejected the results announced by INEC and has headed for the courts.
Buhari won in 19 states while Atiku won in 17, according to the INEC. Buhari polled more than 15 million votes and waa leading Atiku with more than 3 million votes.
The PDP refused to sign the register after the INEC announced that Buhari won.
Atiku said the election was rigged thŕough so many styles like militarisation amd intimidation of voters.
But Buhari has thanked Nigerains for trusting him with their votes.
He urged his opponents to accept the results as a reflection of the wishes of Nigerians amd told his supporters not to be hard on the opponents in the face of victory.
Atiku has gone to the court ri challenge the process that produced Buhari.
His party has earlier hinted they will reject the election results due to irregularities.
