The Independent National Electoral commission has distanced itself from President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent comment that those found snatching ballot boxes should be shot.
At the All Progressive Congress vaucus meeting on Monday Buhari said he had directed the army and police to ne ruthless to ballot box snatchers.
Condemnations trailed the comment across the country and beyond.
The INEC Chairman Mahmoud Yakubu, while addressing a world press conference in Abuja on Tuesday said those found snatching ballot boxes should subjected to the laws of the country as stipulated in the Electoral Act.
Yakubu confirmed that card readers have been 95 percent (180,000) configured and that the exercise would be concluded on Wednesday morning.
Yakubu also denied that any INEC commissioner was under any form of arrest or interrogation.
