Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has appointed four new emirs, daring the court on its order not to do so and setting the stage for riotous Kano any time soon.

The new emirs will receive their staff of office on Saturday, May 11, according to the government.

The governor made the appointment 48 hours after he signed into law a bill to divide Kano emirate into five, in a move widely believed to be vendetta against Emir Muhammadu Sanusi’s influence.

The new emirs are Aminu Ado Bayero (Bichi), Ibrahim Abdulkadir (Gaya), Tafida Abubakar (Rano) and Ibrahim Abubakar (Karaye).

Ado Bayero is one of the sons of the predecessor of Sanusi, the incumbent emir of Kano.

According to the commissioner for information, Muhammad Garba, the new emirs will receive their letters of appointment and staff of office at a ceremony at Sani Abacha Stadium on Saturday.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja earlier on Friday,  Ganduje said he has nothing against Sanusi II concerning the creation of new emirates in the state.

“So, it is not vendetta, I am not against him. In fact, he is supposed to be reporting to the local government chairman according to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“It is the local government chairman that he is supposed to discuss issues with not the governor.

“So, this is celebrated by the people of Kano State and we will make sure that the new emirate councils are effective in terms of developing Kano State,” the governor said.
