Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano state, is confident that his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will win in the Saturday, March 23 supplementary election in the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the March 9 governorship poll in Kano inconclusive because Bello Shehu, the returning officer, said the margin between the two leading candidates and the cancelled votes in the election did not warrant any of them being declared winner.

At the said election, Abba Yusuf, candidate of the PDP polled 1,014,353 votes ahead of  incumbent Governor Abdullahi Ganduje who is  candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with  953,522 votes.

There was a margin of 26,655 votes, with 100,873 votes  cancelled in the election.

Speaking through hi media aide on Thursday, Kwankwaso said the PDP is sure of victory.

He said: “Sen Rabiu Kwankwaso hereby calls on the people of Kano, cutting across political divides, to conduct themselves peacefully during the oncoming re-run election while voting for the candidate of their choice,” Spikin said on behalf of the former governor.

“Kwankwaso believes in Kano and is concerned about the fate of its teeming youths, which informed his people-oriented projects and programmes when he was the governor of Kano.

“He called on the public to ignore all negative media articles attributed to him, especially those premised on throwing the state into chaos.

“The senator believes that in a free and fair election, PDP will win, as it had previously. Hence, a re-run will not in any way hamper the fortunes of Abba Kabir Yusuf (the PDP governorship candidate).”
