Suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has been released from police custody.

The embattled former EFCC boss was arrested last week on allegations of corruption and has been in police custody until his release on Wednesday.

His lawyer, Mr. Oluwatosin Ojaomo, had asked the IGP to grant him bail on self-recognition, but the police Chief had declined the request on the ground that the police force was not investigating and detaining Magu

He had advised the lawyer to redirect the bail request to the presidential panel for appropriate attention.

Magu’s investigation was sequel to a petition by Abubakar Malami, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, and the Department of State Service (DSS).

The AGF in the said petition, had accused Magu of abuse of office and diversion of recovered loot.

Reactions have continued to trail, Magu’s arrest and investigation, with some lawyers applauding the development as an affirmation of the president’s commitment to the fight against corruption.
