The suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, who is being investigated for corruption by a Presidential Panel, has asked the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to grant him bail pending the outcome of the investigation.

Magu, who was suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday,  made the request through his lawyer, Mr. Oluwatosin Ojaomo.l

In a letter dated July 10, Ojaomo, urged the IGP to grant Magu bail on self-recognition pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Ojaomo said they are ready to provide a credible surety that will ensure the embattled acting chairman is available anytime he is needed for the purpose of investigation.

The letter was copied to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chairman of the Presidential Probe Panel on the activities of the EFCC, Justice Ayo Salami (rtd).

Chairman of Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-corruption, Prof Itsay Sagay (SAN), and the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Investigation, Federal Criminal Investigation Department, Garki, Abuja, where Mr Magu is said to be detained, were also copied.

The lawyer noted that all the allegations against Magu are bailable, pointing out that the suspended EFCC boss is statutorily entitled to be released on bail in the event he is formally charged with offences arising from the allegations against him.
