President Muhammadu Buhari has named former Inspector-General of Police Musiliu Smith as the new chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) .
Smith will be taking over from Mike Okiro, also a former IG of Police, whose tenure ends soon.
The president transmitted a letter, seeking legislative confirmation of the appointments, which was read by Senate President Bukola Saraki on Thursday.
In the letter, five other individuals were also appointed by the president, as members of the PSC.
Okiro’s tenure as chairman of PSC would statutorily come to an end on June 12, 2018.
It could not b immediately ascertained if Okiro was willing to have his tenure renewed for another five years.
