The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, fixed March 3 to deliver its judgement on the consolidated suit filed by some states to set aside the decision of the Federal Government of Nigeria to ban the use of old N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes as legal tenders.
A seven-man panel of the apex court okayed the matter for judgement after all the parties adopted their briefs of arguments.
At the last hearing on February 15, seven states joined the three initial states as co-plaintiffs, while Edo and Bayelsa states joined the Federal Government as co-defendants. The court, however, refused to join Abia State in the suit on the ground that it came late with its originating summons.
All efforts by Abia State Government to be joined in the suit, was turned down and was ordered to present its case at a later date.
The states the court joined as parties in the suit were: Lagos, Cross River, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Sokoto, Abia, Jigawa, Kano, Rivers and President Muhammadu Buhari’s homestate, Katsina.
