The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has confirmed that its Twitter account has been hacked.
A message on its official Facebook page, confirmed the development and urged the public to disregard the tweets currently on its timeline as they did not emanate from the NBC.
A disclaimer notice on its official Facebook page read: DISCLAIMER!!!
THE GENERAL PUBLIC IS PUT ON NOTICE THAT NBC TWITTER ACCOUNT HAS BEEN HACKED INTO. PLEASE DISREGARD ALL TWEETS FROM OUR HANDLE FOR NOW. WE ARE MAKING EFFORTS TO RECOVER IT. THANK YOU.
A hacker group, which identified itself as Anonymous, said this morning, it hacked the NBC Twitter account.
The hacker had used the NBC official handle and tweeted #EndSARS, #ENDPOLICEBRUTALITY, in support of the ongoing protests against human rights violations by officers of the SARS and clamour for abolishment of SARS.
The group also boasted it has taken over all the Nigerian Government officials’ tweeter accounts and called on Nigerians to suggest other government websites for hacking.
It equally vowed to expose the Nigerian government.
It tweeted: “We #Anonymous have taken over all the NG Official Twitter’s Account to support #ENDPOLICEBRUTALITY,” the group said in one of its tweets on the NBC handle.
“WE’RE TOGETHER WITH NIGERIANS. EXPECT UNEXPECTED.”
Meanwhile, #EndSARS protesters in Abuja on Friday continued on their protests across the city, demanding justice for all victims of police brutality and killings.
Channels Television reports that while the protesters continue to press for their demands to be met, the protest took another twist as the Muslim youths observed their Jummat prayers on the road.
This was despite the Federal Capital Territory Security Committee directive on Thursday that all street demonstrations, protests, and processions will not be allowed anywhere within its environment henceforth.
