The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, has described the Late Dr. Nnamdi Nwauwa, as a trail blazer in emergency medical services in Nigeria.
The NDDC Chairman, who spoke during the burial ceremony of Dr Nwauwa at his country home in Izombe, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, remarked that his successes in the field of emergency medicine should be celebrated.
Senator Ndoma-Egba, conveyed his condolences on behalf of the Board and Management of the NDDC to the family of the deceased which included theRepresentative of Imo State on the board of the Commission, Hon. Chuka Ama-Nwauwa and a former Director of Legal Services of the Commission, Hon Eze Ama-Nwauwa.
He noted that Dr Nwauwa’s death was a loss to Nigeria because among his several contributions in the field of emergency medicine, he introduced the International Trauma Life Support in the country.
The NDDC Chairman said: “Indeed, passages like this remind us how fragile life is. We must always strive to build a good heritage with our deeds, the kind that Nnamdi built as a distinguished medical doctor, and as Chairman of Society of Emergency Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria, Research Fellow of Harvard University and American Heart Association of Nigeria. That way, humanity will always remember us, ensuring that our lives are immortalised, however brief.”
Senator Ndoma-Egba urged the family to be comforted that their patriarch lived a good and fulfilled life, adding: “His precepts will continue to inspire his family, friends and associates to aspire to accomplish greatness and establish a worthy legacy too.”
Responding on behalf of the family, Hon. Chuka Ama-Nwauwa thanked the NDDC for coming to comfort them as they grieved over the loss of their leading light.
According to him, Dr Nwauwa touched many lives and achieved remarkable milestones in the field of medicine. “In addition to his rich medical background, he also had a strong spiritual foundation which he used for the benefit of humanity,” he said.
