President Muhammadu Buhari’ s nationwide broadcast this morning has not impressed many Nigerians.

The unity of the country and security were the two main issues that dominated Buhari’s six minutes address but many believe the speech was scanty and has neglected the key issues that agitate the minds of Nigerians.

For instance, while some commentators said Buhari could not even apologise to Nigerians for the long period he was away from office, others said rather than seek the buy in of Nigerians on what he thinks about the state architecture, Buhari sounded dictatorial and dished out orders through his address .

” This man will never change. He still thinks this is 1984. The speech is full of orders and threats and loud sounding but signifying nothing substantial,” one commentator said from Bayelsa.

Another commentator said Buhari glossed over the Academic Staff Union of University problem with government and wondered why a President who craves good educational system would not make mention of the on going strike and what government is doing to deal with the situation.

Accordingly to another commentator, Buhari was expected to tell Nigerians what he is going to do now to deal with the issue of hardship ravaging the country with most Nigerians dying daily of hunger, and the army of unemployed and underemployed youth roamimg the country hopelessly.

” He talked about hate speeches but if you look critically at his address it was full of hate speeches and this is supposed to be a presidential address,” one other Nigerian commented from Abuja.

“Presidential address does not happen always. Therefore every president seizes the opportunity to look at all issues bothering the people regardless of the timing of the speech. Nothing seems to be working in Nigeria now and the least Nigerians expected from Buhari was for him to tell them how his government is going to fulfil the Party’s electiral promises,” said another Nigerian residing in Lagos.
