Nigeria’s Federal Government declares May 29 public holiday to mark Democracy Day

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, May 29, a public holiday to celebrate the 2018 Democracy Day.

Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd.) made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, in a statement in Abuja on Friday through the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. M. Umar.

Dambazau congratulated Nigerians on the occasion and pledged government’s continued dedication to entrenching democracy in the polity.

He urged all Nigerians to trust and support the government “in its commitment to building an indivisible, peaceful and greater nation based on the tenets of democracy.”
