The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Mohammed has assured the public that appropriate measures are being taken to ensure that unnecessary loss of lives at public functions does not occur again.
Mohammed gave the assurance Wednesday during a courtesy call on the Imo Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, to condole with the people of the State on the recent tragic death of Engr. Ndubuisi Emenike who was shot through accidental discharge by an officer of the command at Isiala-Mbano.
The Commandant General who came with a galaxy of top ranking NSCDC officers pointed out that the measures taken include that: “on no occasion whatsoever would armed men be found 50 metres close to any crowd or public gathering and, secondly; the use of firearm to celebrate has been prohibited”.
He offered his condolences on behalf of the entire NSCDC command, praying God to comfort the family of the deceased in particular and the State in general, Mohammed assured that investigation on the matter was on going and the truth would be brought to light for justice to be served, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser, Oguwike Nwachuku.
“I called my State Commandants all over the Country and told them that on no occasion whatsoever should armed men be 50 metres close to any crowd or area of celebration.
“You have to help us in the implementation of this order. Secondly, on no occasion should Armed Men be celebrating with fire arms.
“I am assuring you that we will take measures that this will never happen again”.
The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the Government, Chief Cosmas Iwu, appreciated the visit, stressing that the State Government would continue to partner the security outfit despite the unfortunate event.
