Peter Obi, the Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the contentious February 23 Presidential Election, has congratulated Governor Neysom Wike and the people of Rivers state for their delayed victory.
Obi said in a statement from his media office shortly after Wike was declared winner in Rivers state governorship election in Port Harcourt on Wednesday that all lovers of democracy must salute the resilience of the people of Rivers state who stood in defence of their votes.
He described the victory as sweet, the delay not withstanding.
Obi said the people would not have been bigoted to Wike if he had not made appreciable impact in their lives through delivery of good governance.
He advised Wike to remain focused on the delivery of democracy dividends to his people and not get distracted by the needless bickering and provocation that greeted the election.
The former Anambra state governor however admonished some overbearing security operatives who turned Rivers state into a war theatre, thinking power can be gotten via gun in a democracy.
Obi stated that the people of Rivers didn’t need to go through the stress given the outstanding performance of their governor in the last four years and advised government agencies never to allow themselves be an agent of destabilization of any state talk less a critical one like Rivers.
