Realing the role his deputy, Eze Madumere has played in his political journey, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State is said to be making frantic efforts to placate him.
Okorocha recently endorsed his son inlaw, Uche Nwosu against his very loyal deputy, Madumere, who many thought will naturally succeed Okorocha because of his experience and exposure.
But when Madumere informed Okorocha of his intention to run for Imo State governorship recently, the governor became jolted by the information and quickly dangled the position of senatorial seat for Owerri zone to Madumere which he rejected.
However, feelers that Madumere’s ambition is gaining stronger momentum in the state and among the All Progressive Congress stakeholders is said to have further given Okorocha cause to worry.
Armadanews.com was told during the week that Okorocha has been sending emmisaries to Madumere to plead with him for understanding, but the deputy told Okorocha he is no longer in control of his governorship ambition as it has become a public matter.
According to our source, Madumere who still respects his boss of many years is concerened that he has been betrayed by Okorocha.
The deputy governor no longer wears his muffler, a trade mark of Okorocha’s political team.
We got it on good authority that Okorocha is afraid that a free and fair APC primaries in Imo will favour Madumere more than his son inlaw, hence the move to placate his deputy.
When Madumere’s media aide Uche Onwuchekwa was contacted, he said many people have been coming to speak to his boss on behalf of the governor but he was not in a position to know their real mission.
He however assured that Madumere’s governorship ambition has already caught fire ahead of his formal delaration.
