Oyo First Bank Robbery: Police Vow to Arrest Fleeing Gang Members

The police in Oyo state have vowed to apprehend the remaining members of the armed robbery gang that robbed First Bank, Okeho in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State on Wednesday.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of Oyo State Police Command, Mr. Nwachukwu Enwonwu, who made the solemn promise, said the Command has spread its dragnet for the fleeing robbers.

Three members of the gang met their waterloo as irate mob set them ablaze when they tried to escape after the incident.

A policemen attached to the bank was reported shot dead by the robbers, who carted away some undisclosed amount of money from the bank, while a civilian was also killed when dynamites abandoned by the robbers exploded.
The police said in a situation report released by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olugbenga Fadeyi:
“At about 1658 hrs, there was a bank robbery in which dare devil armed bandits who came with white 18-seater bus invaded First bank Okeho in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State with an intent to rob.

“The armed robbers who gained entrance into the bank used dynamites and AK-47 riffles shots to blow the bank security door.

“The robbery, which was responded to by the Police Tactical teams and collaborative efforts of the Vigilante and hunters yielded results. “Consequent upon this, three of the robbers who were arrested when the 18-seater bus had an accident and somersaulted, were thereafter set ablaze by the angry mob when they attempted to escape the scene of the accident. ”
