The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders, old and new seem to be taking advantage of the crisis within the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to consolidate under the coalition of political parties.
It was a gathering of political heavyweights drawn from different political parties as their leaders converged at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Monday to sign a memorandum of Understanding on coalition on how to defeat the ruling APC ahead of the 2019 general election.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former President of the Senate, David Mark, former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP and a member of the Board of Trustee, Olabode George, Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, controversial senator, Dino Melayer and other dignitaries were at the Coalition of United Political Parties gathering in Abuja.
The event, which took place at the Yar’Adua Center on Monday, was announced by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Senator Umaru Ibrahim Tsauri.
The crucial meeting saw in attendance members of former PDP ministers forum, all state chairmen, and a host of others.
The PDP and other political parties have been meeting secretly on how best to wrest power the APC-controlled government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Some of the political parties that signed the MoU include the PDP, ADC, SDP, Reformed All Progressives Congress (r-APC), PPA, NCP, AD, MMM, GPN, RNP, NUP, PPP, RPN, UPN, KOWA, NIM, CAC, AA, GDPN among others.
The opposition parties are in agreement that Buhari has failed and that the APC should be shoved aside next year.
The coalition gathering is the first major public outing of the masterminds of the idea on how to sack APC in 2019.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is one man working underground to provide the groups support having earlier advised Buhari not to seek reelection based on poor performance.
