Justice Tanko Mohammed

The People’s Democratic Party has faulted the swearing in of 250 members of the election petition tribunal by newly appointed acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Mohammed.

Mohammed swore in the 2019 election tribunal members at the Supreme Court complex in Abuja advising them to maintain the highest level of integrity for the judiciary.

Mohammed was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday to replace Walter Onnoghen whom he suspended.

Mohammed’s appointment was greeted by knocks from local amd international bodies that described Onnoghen’s removal as a miscarriage of justice and coup against the judiciary.

The PDP said the swearing in of the election tribunal members by Mohammed was misplaced as Onnoghen oa believed to still be in charge of the judiciary.

Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP National Publicity Secretary said while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Saturday that Mohammed was involving in illegality, and urged Nigerians not to recognise the inauguration.

He said the  speed with which Mohammed carried out the inauguration showed that the All Progressive Congress government has been preserving him for the inauguration because of their political interest in the election and the outcome.

He also hinted that the PDP had suspended ita campaign for 72 hours in protest for the suspension of Onnoghen.
