Leaders of the opposition People’s Democratic Party have visited the governor of Benue State Samuel Ortom to assure him of tbeir support in his current challenges.

Ortom was the first governor elected on the platform of the APC to defect to the PDP.

His defection was immediately greeted with antagonism from the leaders of the APC at both the national level and the state level.

National Chairman of the party Adams Oshiomhole was reported to have said the APC will teach other defecting members example with Ortom.

On Monday eight lawmakers in the Benue State House of Assembly guided by a detachment of policemen in the state held a session where they claimed to have served Ortom impeachment notice. Benue has more than 25 local government areas.

Ortom believes Oshiomhole and Senator George Akume were instrumental to the planned impeachment notice but said they will fail.

As sympathy for Ortom sways the PDP led by Uche Secondus and his executive members as well as governors Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe state and Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state were in Makurdi where they went to assure Ortom if their toral support.

They had berated the lawmakers for attempting an illegality of trying to impeach tbe governor with a minority number, warning that the move will be roundly resisted.

The PDP cautioned against disrecpect for the office of the governor accusing the APC of supporting illegality and undermining the country’s democracy.

Responding, Ortom assured that the APC has already lost the state and that there is nothing anybody can do about it.

He reiterated that Akume and Oshiomhole were sowing seeds of destruction in Benue but assured the PDP leaders that Benue is for them come 2019.
