Peter Obi condemns suspension of AIT, Ray Power licenses

Vice presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 2019 general election Peter Obi, has bemoaned the suspension of the licenses of Daar Communications Plc by the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation.

The NBC withdrew Daar Communications Plc licenses on Thursday citing abuse of code of broadcasting and proceeded to shut AIT and Ray Power stations of the broadcast company.

The NBC director general Modibo Kawu announced the suspension at a news briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

Condemnations have trailed the development with the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria saying NBC action was uncalled for.

Taking to his twitter handle on Ftiday, Obi condemned the action and described it as “an affront on the freedom of the press, and of speech as enshrined in our constitution.”

He added: “It is a throwback to the years of military dictatorship.”

Earlier on Thursday, the PDP also said the shutting down of the Daar Communications Plc outfits signals nothing but the return of full dictatorship in the guise of democracy.

The PDP called on Nigerians to resist it.

Raymond Dokpesi, founder of Daar Communications had raised the alarm that the Presidency was after his group, citing threats from NBC and other government agencies.

Many who knocked the shutting of AIT and Ray Power with the attendant jod loses said the APC government has not been creating enabling environment for companies to survive and so cannot be taken seriously on its job creation manthra.
