PIA: Senate Confirms Four Nominees As NMDPRA Members

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of four nominees as members of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

The confirmation was made during the plenary on Thursday, shortly before the presentation of the 2022 budget at the joint session of the National Assembly.

It also followed the consideration of a report by the Committee on Downstream Petroleum Sector.

The nominees are Idaere Gogo Ogan – Chairman; Farouk A. Ahmed – Chief Executive Officer; Abiodun Adeniji – Executive Director, Finance and Accounts; and Ogbugo Ukoha – Executive Director, Distributions System, Storage and Retail Infrastructure.

The committee Chairman Senator Sabo Mohammed, who presented the report, says their appointments are in accordance with the provisions of section 34(3) of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021.

He says the Committee did not receive any petition against their nominations, adding that they were cleared by security agencies and possess the Code of Conduct Acknowledgement Slips.

The Senate had on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of board members of the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission.

The confirmation of the nominees was sequel to the consideration of a report by

Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, PDP,  Akwa Ibom North East led Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources( Upstream).

The nominees confirmed were Isa Ibrahim Modibbo – Chairman; Engr. Gbenga Komolafe – Chief Executive; Hassan Gambo – Executive Commissioner, Finance and Accounts; and Ms Rose Ndong – Executive Commissioner, Exploration and Acreage Management.

In his presentation, Senator Akpan  said that the nominees demonstrated sufficient knowledge of the workings of the petroleum industry, especially the upstream petroleum sector, as well as the economics of petroleum exploration and production.

He added that the appointments of the nominees satisfy the requirements of Sections 11 and 18 (1-5) of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021.

According to Akpan, “there are no adverse reports against the nominees as record checks and other forms of investigations by security agencies did not reveal any negative trace against them.” Channels/Vanguard
