Youths from Benue on Saturday took to the streets to block some roads leading in and out of the state in what may be a direct response to the ongoing killing of the indigenes by the Fulani herdsmen.
They reportedly blockaded the roads, causing apprehension in the area and among security agents. The roads were not only deserted by road users, but markets were also closed during the protest.
Consequently, the police mobilised and went after the protesters to keep the peace of the state.
Governor Samuel Ortom in condemning the act asked the police to arrest those who are disturbing the peace of the state.
Ortom said one person was reportedly killed and 10 others injured and that the unrest started at a burial ceremony where some Benue youths, mainly Okada riders differed and decided to take their differences out on innocent and peaceful Benue State.
The governor said though the unrest had been contained, he had directed that a curfew be place in the affected areas from 6 pm till 6 am until further notice.
