Police in ‘Show of Force’ Deployment for Ondo Poll

Police authorities are on the verge of emptying large chunk of their human capital on Ondo State as the people file out on Saturday, November 26 to vote for another governor after the expiration of the tenure of Olusegun Mimiko in few weeks’ time.

The Police said they are deploying 26,000 personnel, three helicopters, 12 Armoured Personnel Carriers, 20 gunboats for the Ondo election.

Inspector-General of Police (IG), Ibrahim Idris dropped the hint on Tuesday, November 22 in Akure during a meeting he held with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and representatives of political parties in the state.

Idris urged all the participants to play according to the rule or the police will make them face the law if they set out to deliberately break it on the day of the poll.

Meanwhile, the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Segun Oni will lead a six-member team from the Party’s National Leadership to coordinate the Party’s Situation Room for the election.

The decision was reached after a meeting of the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Tuesday.

Other members of the team are the National Vice Chairman (South-West), Chief Pius Oluwole Akinyelure; National Vice Chairman (North-West), Inuwa Abdul-Kadir; Zonal Youth Leader (South West), Adedotun Oluwasegun; Zonal Woman Leader (South West); Kemi Nelson and a Party Chieftain, Acho Obioma.

The Party’s Situation Room is expected to liaise with the Control Centre which will be situated at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, according to a statement by Edegbe Odemwingie, the APC Assistant Director of Publicity.
