Police have sealed off Lagos State-owned Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

As at Monday, police officers stationed at the stadium’s entrance were preventing people from gaining entrance into the facility.

Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) which manages the stadium has been engulfed in crisis.

Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Adeniran Odeyemi, had in a memo on April 23 directed all heads of government agencies to hand over by May 10.

But LSSC chairman, Kwekwu Tandoh and the Director General, Babatunde Bank-Anthony, claimed that they were not affected by the memo.

LSSC was, however, not included in the list of exceptions.

“For avoidance of doubt, the Statutory Board under reference above are; Civil service Commission, Judiciary Service commission, Independent Electoral Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission, Audit Service Commission, Teaching Service Commission, Local Government Service Commission, Primary Health Care Board and Lagos State Pension Commission,” part of the memo read.

Workers union and athletes had also threatened to close down the commission’s office if the two men did not honour the order on the memo.

They had also protested on May 8 against the two men whom they say do not support grassroot development and for non-payment of their salaries and allowances.
