Erudite Professor of History and International Studies at the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka, Paul Obi-Ani, has been elected the South Eastern Vice President of the Historical Society of Nigeria (HSN).

Prof. Obi-Ani emerged unopposed at a keenly contested HSN election held recently in Kaduna State,  during the national delegates conference.

Together with Prof. Okpeh Okpe who was elected president, they are expected to take the prestigious HSN to level unprecedented in its history, using their national and international connections.

Their role is cut out for them, particularly in today’s Nigeria where the study of history in secondary schools has been relegated to the background by the government with its huge implications on the socio-political, cultural and economic lives of the citizens.

Prof. Obi-Ani, is expected to bring his active participation in national and international scholarship,  through his several scholarly outings in international journals and conferences, to bear on the Society.

To his advantage is the leadership positions he has held at the University of Nigeria, such as being the Head of Department of History and International Relations as well as serving as Visiting Professor to several Nigerian universities.
