Prominent Woman Leader Dies At 78

A prominent woman leader,Mrs. Irene Uzochi Andeobu(nee Ofodu) AKA Iru- Ugegbe from the popular Ofodu family, Umuochie kindred, Imema-Akama,Akama Oghe,Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State is dead.

She was aged 78 years and married to the late Mr. Edmund Ogbonnaya Andeobu, aka “Otumaga Enengwu” who was a civil servant in Lagos.

The late Mrs. Andeobu was unique in several ways:humble,sincere and honest.She significantly impacted many lives during her lifetime, which
the Oghe Community in Obalende Lagos gave her the name ‘IYAWO’,a name that resonated all through her life.

Her long stay in the United States of America(USA) earned her the title of Ezinne by an association there.

She also made the “NNE EGWU” of the Amaogbu Isiokwe Women cultural dance known as the Igboeze Cultural Dance.A devote Catholic,she belonged to religious organizations such as the Catholic Women’s Organization(CWO) at St. Anthony’s Parish, Ogui New Layout, Enugu State,and St. Mary’s Parish, Akama-Oghe,also,in Enugu State.

She was awarded the Amiable mother of CWO by the Catholic Women’s Organization of St. Mary’s Parish Akama-Oghe.

The deceased is survived by many children,grand children,great grand children and in-laws.Among the children are Engr.Edmund
Andeobu(Jnr) and an in-law,Mr. Ralph Nwosu,the Imo State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure.
