A group of protesters staged a protest on Wednesday at the Lagos State House of Assembly over the planned impeachment of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
The groups comprised mainly members of the civil society organisation and they said the removal of Ambode would disrupt the peaceful conduct of the general elections.
The protesters stormed the Lagos Assembly with their placards and banners bearing varied inscriptions that showed their displeasure at the move by the Lagos state legislators impeach Ambode.
On Monday, the lawmakers hinted of plans to impeach the governor citing spending of state money without their approval and other allegations.
More than three quarters of the lawmakers moved in support of the impeachment with only six advising that Ambode be advised to resign.
Lagosians believe governor was being hounded by the national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu who is Ambode’s political god father and the one responsible for denying the governor a second term ticket.
Many Lagosians have said the treatment meted out to Ambode is unfair and that they will not allow it to go unrewarded through their ballot if he is eventually impeached as threatened.
