Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife don, Professor Richard Akindele of has been sacked by the school authorities for allegedly demanding sex from a student, Monica Osagie, to upgrade her mark.
The university’s vice-chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, announced the decision at a press conference in Ile-Ife on Wednesday.
Ogunbodede said the Governing Council of the institution sacked Akindele “having found him guilty of all the charges against him.”
Miss Osagie, a student in the master of business administration programme, had released a recorded telephone conversation, which went viral, in which Akindele, demanded five rounds of sex to enhance her marks.
Miss Osagie told an investigative panel set up by the university in April that Akindele deliberately failed her because she refused his sexual demand.
She said she did not score 33 per cent as the lecturer claimed, but was failed so that she could offer sex in return for marks.
The matter attracted attention of the civil society community most of who tasked the university to sack the don if found guilty.
Akindele had earlier denied the allegation but the panel’s report indicated that he was guilty as alleged.
