The House of Representatives has urged the federal government to immediately design palliatives measures to cushion the effects of the petrol subsidy removal.

Some of the suggested measures include the provision and procurement of CNG Buses as an alternative Transport System with Cheaper Fuel Consumption, and the introduction of intermodal, regional and national transport system to ease mass movement of people across the country.

The House, while reaffirming its full endorsement of outright removal of subsidies on all petroleum products, also adopted the report of its adhoc committee which investigated Nigeria’s subsidy regime.

The lawmakers also called for further investigation through a forensic audit by the office of the Auditor General of the Federation to ascertain whether the N413billion borrowed from the CBN for subsidy payments was refunded after the passage and assent of the 2015 budget as earlier approved by the President.

It also wants the government to suspend all Direct Sales Direct Purchase (DSDP) contracts, following the removal of subsidy.
