Senate President Bukola Saraki has summoned an emergency meeting of the leadership of the national assembly for Tuesday, August 7.

The meeting is believed to be in line with lobby by the executive to have the NASS reconvene to consider the supplementary budget sent to the lawmakers by President Muhammadu Buhari for the Independent National Electoral Commission funding.

The Senate and the house of Representatives had adjourned for vacation last week and hope to reconvene on September 25.

The INEC is in dire need for funds to go about its logistics wuth the 2019 election barely six months away from now.

Senate majority leader Ahmed Lawan also met with Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday to reiterate the need gor the Senate to reconvene in irder to deal with urgent state matters.

Saraki is aware of the import of the passage of the supplementary budget but is also wary of all the intrigues to oust him and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

The APC senators and members have been speaking openly on their plan to get Saraki and Ekweremadu out of the way.

They are pained by the recent defections in the senate that made members of the ruling party in the Senate now in the minority.

Saraki on Monday confided in some associates that he was aware issues of national importance will always demand that the NASS reconvenes to deal with them if even lawmakers are holidaying.
