A 34 year old man, Ndukwe Ekekwe, on Tuesday, told the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of Special Ant-Robbery Squad (SARS), how operatives of the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), threw him down from a two-storey building, causing him to break his backbone.
Ekekwe, who is now confined on a wheelchair, following the incident, said he was arrested by SARS officers on February 16, 2018 at his shop at Alaba Rago, in Alaba International market.
The petitioner said that he was handcuffed by the SARS officials, who claimed they acted on the directives of the Inspector General (IG) of Police.
According to Ekekwe, attempts to find out what his offences were, prompted them to beat him up, after which he was forcefully taken away to their office in Ikeja.
Ekekwe, who said the officers later broke into his shop and auctioned his products, is asking for N15million compensation for his lost goods.
The panel, which commenced sittings last week, is expected to ensure justice for the victims of police brutality.
