The request by President Muhammadu Buhari to borrow $5.5b to finance the 2017 budget was on Tuesday approved by the Senate.
With the approval, the Executive is now free to issue bond of that size through which the money can be raised.
The money, Buhari told the Senate when he recently wrote the lawmakers will be used to finance infrastructure already captured in the 2017 budget.
