The Senate, on Wednesday, passed the Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal Polytechnic, Mpu in Enugu State.
The Bill sponsored by the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu (PDP, Enugu West), was passed following the favourable consideration of the report by the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TetFund.
The Committee reported that participants at the public hearing on the Bill agreed with the Bill’s intentions, particularly the need to avail students with ICT and entrepreneurial skill as well as other programmes that would equip them with employable skills.
“The Committee found out that Enugu State, particularly Enugu West Senatorial District, has no Federal Polytechnic. The establishment of Federal Polytechnic Mpu will, therefore, address this challenge.
“The establishment of Federal Polytechnic, Mpu will empower the students with academic and occupational skills that will produce skilled and competent professionals”, it stated.
Ekweremadu thanked his colleagues for unanimously approving the Bill and related ones to address the need for accessible and quality education, noting that the Federal Polytechnic, Mpu would open new window of opportunities for the youth to realise their enormous potentials and dreams.
