Voting started at about 10 50 am at the senate chambers for the new President of the Senate.
The senators elect are voting between two of tgeir colleagues- Ahmed Lawan and Ali Ndume- both of the All Progressive Congress.
They were nominated accordingly and they accepted their nominations and addressed their colleagues on why they should be chosen.
Lawan is a product of the APC caucus spearheaded by Bola Tinubu while Ndume joined the race on personal convinction. He was even pressured to stand down for Lawan but he refused.
A total of 107 out of 109 senators elect were accredited for the exercise.
Former Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State was refused accreditation.
The winner in the election will be by simple majority.The exercise was by open secret voting method and the names of the senators elect were called out according to their states before they cast their ballot.
