No less than seven police officers lost their lives when a raid on a criminal hideout at Galadiomawa junction, off airport road in Abuja was ambushed, officials said Tuesday.
The development got other police officers and men serving at the Federal Capital Territory to be panicky and operating in fear.
The FCT police commissioner, Sadiq Bello, confirmed the incident without giving further details.
The fire fight was, perhaps, one of the deadliest for the Nigerian Police in recent years.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday with dozens running for safety at the garage roundabout close to the shootout.
A Police officer was seen begging for civilian clothing after removing his police uniform to escape the gunmen.
