Former Sultan of Sokoto who passed on Monday, November 14, Ibrahim Dasuki was laid to rest on Tuesday, November 15, in accordance with Islamic injunctions, in Sokoto.
The Sultan died at 93.
His burial attracted very prominent Nigerians, including Governor Aminu Tambuwaal of Sokoto State, all of who lauded the former monarch for his statesmanship and disposition to peace while on the throne.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has joined well-meaning Nigerians in mourning the former Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki, describing him as an elder statesman and ambassador of peace.
Ekweremadu, who described the death as shocking and saddening, said Alhaji Dasuki’s demise had created a huge void that would be hard to fill.
He said: “The late Sultan was a true statesman, progressive, patriot, pan-Nigerian, and peace ambassador. He understood the import of education to the development of the nation and worked hard and selflessly in promoting both moral values and western education across the Caliphate. He will be highly missed”.
Ekweremadu, who condoled with the Government and people of Sokoto State, called on the Muslim Umah and Nigerians to uphold the virtues the late Sultan represented in his lifetime.
According to a statement by Ekweremadu’s aide, Uche Anichukwu, he prayed God to grant the deceased a peaceful repose and his family, people of Sokoto, and the nation equanimity to bear the irreversible loss.
